Watching Peter Jackson’s epic 9 hour documentary about the Beatles Get Back, you become totally immersed. It’s like the Beatles are living with you in your house. You feel very connected, or maybe obsessive.
Anyway you should watch it. You too, may wake up in the middle of the night worrying about George’s feelings,
During the movie, Ringo, or Starkey, as the lads call him, makes multiple references to the movie he’s filming, The Magic Christian, which stars Peter Sellers. Sellers even makes a non verbal guest appearance in the documentary. It got us wondering, what is this movie that we have never heard of?
We were able to locate it and watch it, and I can’t say it was worth the effort. It was hard to grasp the plot, and in fact it wasn’t until three quarters of the way in, that Sellers character explains the motive, which is: people will do anything for money, you just have to find their price.
The story is a series of baffling events, like a Shakespeare play that devolves into a strip tease. It’s really not worth going on any further explaining the story. Just think of any zany madcap 60’s movie, At some point there will be a man in a bowler hat, flashing lights, go-go dancing, girls in bikini’s and a man in a gorilla suit. There are all here.
